TV9 News : Another Baby Falak’s Case in Bangalore……..,

Reshma Banu is yet to come out of the shock even as her three-month-old baby girl, Neha Afreen, severely battered by her cruel father, is fighting for life at a Bangalore hospital.

In an act reminiscent of the Baby Falak case in New Delhi, Neha was thrashed by her father Umar Farooq (37), now cooling his heels behind the bars, because he wanted a baby boy.

Afreen was admitted to Vani Vilas Government Hospital with severe internal injuries in the head last Thursday. The incident took place that evening. Farooq, who went absconding after murderously assaulting the infant, was held on Sunday.

The doctors treating Neha say her condition is still critical and she is being observed round the clock.

Farooq had been abusing Reshma, his second wife, ever since she gave birth to Neha. The couple got married in 2010.

Recently, one of Farooq’s relatives delivered a baby boy and it reportedly enraged him. He came home drunk on Thursday night and quarrelled with his wife.

Later, when Reshma retired to the bed, Farooq stuffed clothes into the baby’s mouth to muffle her cries and hit her with a blunt object. Reshma, who woke up in the middle of the night, saw the baby suffering from convulsions. She informed her husband, who appeared uninterested. When the baby vomited blood, Farooq fled. With the help of her neighbours, Reshma hospitalised Neha.

Farooq had assaulted the child twice in the past but Reshma did not make an issue of it because she wanted to save the marriage.

Once, he had bitten the baby; on another occasion, Reshma found cigarette burn marks on her forehead and back.

Reshma was initially afraid of approaching the police. Hospital authorities informed the Child Welfare Committee, which prevailed upon Reshma to lodge a complaint against her husband.

One only hopes Neha will not meet Baby Falak’s end.
